If we are blessed with rain, the event goes on.
Build a Labyrinth
We'll start off the morning with a hands-on lesson on how to make use community
members to lay out our labyrinth. The labyrinth will be drawn on the ground
with ecologically friendly materials and we'll place a spring altar at the
center.
Walk the Labyrinth
Once built, the labyrinth will be blessed and is open to all members of the
community to walk throughout the rest of the day. We will have a spring altar
at the center of the labyrinth where you are encouraged to make offerings
of flowers or other small, compostable items. If you wish to bring an item
with personal meaning and retrieve it from the altar, please be prepared to
stay until event tear-down at 4:00 pm.
Eat, Drink and be Merry
Sit down and meet other members of the spiritual community as we share a mid-day
potluck meal. Please bring a dish to share and your own table service if you
plan to take part in the potluck. Be prepared to compost the leftovers of
your meal, and consider re-usable plates and silverware.
Backyard Abundance – Connecting with Gaia in Your Own Backyard
Backyard Abundance helps people understand how to make environmentally-friendly
improvements to their yards. Since the summer of 2006, hundreds of visitors
have attended events held in the backyards of Iowa City residents who have
consciously designed their yards so that they equally benefit wildlife, insects,
plants, and people.
Fred Meyer will describe the spiritual journey he undertook which led to the
creation of the campaign. The experience has increased his knowledge of Nature
and has allowed him to connect with all her beautiful energies. Through presentation
and discussion, he hopes to pass on some of the things he has learned so you
too can form a deeper connection with Gaia and help her heal.
Pictures and more information can be found at BackyardAbundance.org.
What do we do with your donation?
Donations from this event will be used to help Backyard Abundance with their
advertising efforts for their summer programming. We encourage everyone to
check out one or more of their garden tours this summer!
